What is Fioricet?

Fioricet Generic is a mixture of acetaminophen and butalbital. Acetaminophen can be used to reduce fever and pain. Butalbital belongs to a class of drugs known as barbiturates.

It reduces tension headache muscle contractions. Caffeine acts as a stimulant for the central nervous system. Caffeine relaxes blood vessel contractions to improve blood flow.

Fioricet can be used to treat tension headaches caused by muscle contractions.

Fioricet can also be used for reasons not covered in the medication guide.

Fioricet should not be used if you are suffering from porphyria or have taken sedatives, tranquilizers, or alcohol.

If you have taken MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days, Fioricet should not be used. Dangerous drug interactions can occur. MAO inhibitors include linezolid and isocarboxazid.

Fioricet should not be taken more than what is recommended. Overdosing on acetaminophen could cause liver damage or even death.

If you experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine or clay-colored stool, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, call your doctor immediately.

Acetaminophen can cause severe skin reactions in rare cases. If you notice skin reddening or a rash spreading and causing blistering and peeling, stop taking Fioricet immediately and consult your doctor.
